Srinagar

 About –  Sringar came under the distract of Pauri Garhwal Uttarkhand .Srinagar is located  near  river Alaknanda . Srinagar is one of the largest town in Puari Garhwal .Sringar is also known for its beauty of green mountains ,forest and the beautiful river Alaknanda .  It lies in the foot hills of Himalayas with the munificence of nature attracting  visitors from all over the Uttarkhand  and rather from all over the India .Sringar is also  very popular because of its educational quality its has various Collages and Universities .Srinagar has an important market in the valley . Tourist purchase local crafted handicraft items includes shawls, cardigan, jacket and edidle items likes jams, marmalade and pickles from the market .In Srinagar there very famous village called Maletha . It is very beautiful village . The thing which attract the tourist towards  this village is their rustic way of life, their customs and beliefs of the hill folks .Srinagar  town every year organise  the Baikhunth Chaturdashi Mela  which falls / came in the month of October to November . It is  a four day fair where cultural  festivals are organized and the whole town is illuminated by colourful lights and decoration.

The best to visit Srinagar is from mid September to March  as at  that time the weather remain very pleasant .  The temperature of Srinagar remains hot and humid    in rest of the months  .

The Mythology about the Srinagar is that a giant evil mythical rock is there at Srinagar and it was belived that if anyone looks at the eye of that rock would die . In 8 th century AD, Adi Shankaracarya  took journey across India . He visited Srinagar and he through that stone in the river Alakananda.

History

Srinagar came into highlight when it became the capital of Garhwal.  King Ajay Pal with various other kings of Garhis during  the time of 1506-1512ce they founded the Garhwal kingdom and shifted the capital to Chandur Garhi a place in Srinagar.

The Gorkhas defeated the Nepali King and took Kathmandu from them.This made  them more powerfull and they attacked  Kumaon and Garhwal region in the year 1803.Raja Pradyumna Shah of Garhwal was defeted and killed in the January in the year 1804. Srinagar was under  the rule of Gorkha from 1806 to 1815 ce. After that british defeated the Gorkhas  and Srinagar came under the rule of British Government .

 The old srinagar city was destroyed in the Gohna Lake Dam burst . All the old town or rather the whole Srinagar got destroyed.

Today the srinagar we see is rebuilted . Today the Sringar is an important cultural and educational centre . Srinagar is located   in the central of garhwal at the moderate height . it has lots of temple and  monuments and places for tourist to visit.
